Venice, Italy

It's a beautiful day here, in one of my favourite cities in the world! For those of you who have not been, it is well worth a trip just to soak up the unique atmosphere. There's something very special about the cobbled steeets, the spiders' web of canals, the gondolas and the hundreds of church towers shooting out of the city scape. There's really nowhere like it. For me, as an early music geek, it's also a special city historically. The basilica of San Marco was the workplace of Gabrieli, Willaert, and of course Monteverdi. To visit this building, one can really sense how the architecture informed the compositions of these great masters. Tonight we have a concert in the spectacular Scuola Grande di San Rocco- an ancient palace whose walls are lined with beautiful art by Tintoretto. Such a treat!
