2018, our 50th year, opens with two UK concerts in the two cities that have been fundamental to the group’s story: London, the home of the original King’s Singers concert on 1 May 1968, and Cambridge, the meeting place that made it possible for an unlikely line-up of voice types to perform together and create a new sound.
First, we are hosting a day of choral treats at St John’s, Smith Square (Westminster) on Saturday 13 January and it is a great thrill to know that so many former members of the group will be with us.
At 12:00pm, Jeremy Jackman will lead a Choral Workshop alongside other former and current King’s Singers. Open to singers of all levels, you are invited to come and sing some KS favourites including You Are The New Day, Can’t Buy Me Love, and I’m A Train. Sheet music will be provided on the day and there are tickets available for observers too. The proceeds from this event will be donated to The King’s Singers Foundation.
At 6:30pm there will be a Pre-concert Talk with King’s Singers past and present, reflecting on the group’s music, sound, history and future. This event is free of charge to concert ticket holders.
The GOLD concert is at 7.30pm; tickets are available from the St John’s Smith Square Box Office.
By kind permission of the Dean and Director of Music, we’ll sing our second concert of the anniversary year in the Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge. It’s always special to sing in the Chapel, and on this occasion we will join with the Choir of King’s College for the world premiere of a commission from Nico Muhly – “To Stand In This House”.
It will be a pleasure to welcome our friends from over the years warmly for these celebrations and hope to see you there.
