Two down, one to go...

I am a big fan of Ireland. As a New Zealander, we have a great relationship with the Irish although I must apologise to them as a rugby fan. It's not quite fair that they haven't beaten us yet even though they probably didn't deserved to lose on one recent occasion! We came to Ireland in my first few months in the job and the reception then, as it has been over the past two evenings, was incredible! They love their music and they very much enjoy hearing good renditions of their own folksongs. It's been lovely singing a selection of songs from our most recent album, Postcards, and the CDs have been flying out the door after shows. I think the best thing about this album is that it has encouraged us to perform songs in countries where we perhaps haven't traditionally thought to sing them. For example, you wouldn't necessarily have heard our Brazilian encore if you didn't live in Brazil. But now you do!This afternoon we are working with six choirs, before performing in the National Concert Hall. I'm looking forward to hearing the ensembles. The thing that fascinates me most about hearing different choirs from all around the world is how their own language shapes their vocal timbre or colour. I'll never forget hearing a professional Russian choir singing in Smolny Cathedral in Saint Petersburg. The darkness of their vocal timbre was extraordinary to hear, mirroring aspects of how they speak their own language.Looking forward to being able to spend the long weekend in Dublin with Liz before we head to the US next week. It's all go in the KS and I hope to see as many of you at concerts this year as possible.Ag do anois!
