Tórshavn, Faroe Islands

We have been here 36 hours now and already I feel completely rejuvenated and refreshed from London’s smelly pollution and the jet-lag we’ve been suffering from, having returned from California last week. It is odd to think that on the Faroe Islands, one is never further than 3 miles from the sea.

It was lovely to sing our first Christmas-themed concert of 2017 last night to a full house at Nordic House, and always exciting to sing to a new audience who’ve never had The King’s Singers in their land before. Even though it’s still November, the comfort of Christmas coming up is rather attractive, especially after the extremely busy patch we’ve just had, and makes me feel warm inside, while we face the bitterly cold Atlantic air outside!

I was involved in a rare, non-KS performance last Saturday, in which I was singing the tenor solos in Handel’s Messiah alongside some world-class professional soloists in Faversham, Kent. It was positively refreshing to perform outside the context of the group and to revise my solo performance technique and methods, and get a different perspective on musical communication. Coming back to perform with the group last night was then a truly thrilling experience, and I somehow felt more confident and inspired than ever… Without sounding too cheesy(!), I feel happier and prouder than ever to be a King’s Singer of 2017 :)
