The Midlands, England

Today, after a slightly rough journey back from Rome yesterday, I am having a well-earned day at home.  Sadly there isn’t much rest though! You probably appreciate that being a King’s Singer involves a bit more than just being on stage; there’s music to learn, discussions to be had, calls to be taken, and things to organise to make sure that we are able to sing 120 concerts each year around the world in six continents (we are yet to travel to Antarctica!).

It has been a good day, and much of the above has been achieved, as well as 28 lengths in the pool; my personal best! I am very new to swimming, and just 5 months ago, I was unable to swim even one length so I am pleased with my progress.  I was always an underachiever at school in sport. I mean I loved it, but I used to forget the difference between football and rugby; this wasn’t a good thing to happen in a school that prides itself in being one of the best in England for rugby! It was lucky that I was in a sport’s group that was allowed to attempt to play what we called ‘Peruvian Longball’ (basically, an amalgamation of rugby and football).

Tomorrow, I look forward to having the shortest commute of my time in the group so far; a (hopefully!) quick drive to Oxford for two concerts in the Sheldonian Theatre.  We are all greatly looking forward to working with choirs from Radley School.
