Tavistock, UK

Following on from a thrilling lunchtime concert at Wigmore Hall on Monday, it’s great to be carrying on with a mini-patch of UK touring for a few days, with a concert in the acoustically sound Millfield School concert hall yesterday, and a concert tonight at Tavistock Parish Church, which, judging by Google images, looks to be a beautiful setting!

St Eustachius – Tavistock Parish Church

One of my favourite things about UK touring is discovering new places that I’d otherwise likely never have an opportunity to visit. Pat, Nick and I drove down together from London yesterday, and after passing right by Stonehenge on the A303 (one of the more beautiful drives, in spite of all the lorries…), decided to carry on with our pre-historic sight-seeing and stop by Glastonbury Tor, near the concert venue. We hadn’t quite anticipated how much of a climb it would be to the top though!

Pat, Nick and I popped up the Glastonbury Tor yesterday before our rehearsal at Millfield School. Cracking views!

Another highlight of UK touring is getting to see friends and family, sometimes unexpectedly, at concerts. Yesterday, it was wonderful to see and catch up with former King’s Singer, Nigel Perrin, and his lovely Kate. His sartorial elegance was truly something to behold! It was also nice to have the great uncle and aunt of my girlfriend there, who have been KS fans since long before I was born! Tonight in Tavistock, I have the pleasure of inviting to the concert a friend, James, from Exeter Cathedral (the Canon Precentor, no less!) whom I haven’t seen in several years. I believe it will be his first time seeing the KS live, so I’m looking forward to catching up and hearing his thoughts afterwards!
