2018 has been a good year for new countries visited on my bucket list. So far, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand... and now Estonia! Unfortunately the weather here isn't quite living up to the summery standards of the past couple of weeks in Austria, Germany and Switzerland; nonetheless, the view overlooking Tallinn from my 15th floor hotel room paints a beautiful scene: the five onion domes of the orthodox cathedral (Alexander Nevsky Cathedral) and the spire of St Nicholas' Church conspicuously present themselves, made more colourful by the contrasting backdrop of the dull grey sky, and rainbow just starting to come into focus, seemingly undeterred by the whistling wind.It's great to have Nick and Eddie on tour with us for their four-day "shadowing" patch, as they get a taste of the touring life that lies ahead of them from January 2019. We're managing to fit in two hours of rehearsal with them on each concert day of this Estonia trip (with concerts in Tartu, Pärnu and Tallinn) which is the most important part of their shadowing, but of course it's great also just to gradually get to know each other a bit better and cultivate a nice and friendly work environment for the teams old and new. Their presence is really bringing home the imminent new change of membership, which is both sad and exciting!One of the interesting things I am finding in rehearsal with the new line-up is how my performance style seems to be changing (hopefully for the better!) when I stand next to Eddie. Having stood next to Tim for over four years, I've learnt so much from him, particularly with regards to bringing a performance of any given piece to life on stage; with Eddie next to me, I feel very aware that I need to try and set an excellent example of what the group aims to achieve in performance, and to be a good influence for him on stage, like Tim has been for me.
