This tour has been fun. They're all fun, on one level or another, but this one especially. I've had the chance to spend time with my parents in Hamilton, New Zealand, and also to catch up with friends that I don't get to see very often (because they live on the other side of the world). More than that, we've sung some great concerts in wonderful halls, none more spectacular than our venue in Melbourne, the Recital Centre.
This amazing venue, which you can see in the photographs below is not only a beautiful building, both inside and out, but also boasts some of the finest acoustics worldwide. It seems a little odd, therefore, for us to be using microphones to present our American Songbook programme! However, when we started to make our sound-check, it became apparent that even amplification couldn't dull the amazing sound within the hall, and we got so much back from the intricately-carved walls and the sound-bars in the ceiling that we hardly had to boost the voices at all. A truly incredible experience - we're so glad we get to perform here TWICE!
From here we head up to Brisbane for two concerts and some workshops with our friends at Vocal Manoeuvres. It's hard for many musical organisations to make their way in this world, but Alison Rogers and her team up in Queensland have shown that you can do an incredible amount with determination, love of music and a never-say-die attitude. It's always a pleasure for us to work with Alison and we're looking forward to bringing the joy of singing to a lot of enthusiastic people this coming week.
