Well the weather is delightful here in Oxford. Nice to be sitting outside having dinner in the garden. Makes a welcome change from hotels and restaurants and you can't beat home cooking!
I had a really enjoyable time performing in the new Milton Court Concert Hall which is part of the Guildhall School of Music. It's a lovely chamber venue and I'm sure we'll be singing there again in the future. Working with Eric Whitacre is great as he's got so much energy and a very clear idea of what he wants to get out of the music, especially his own compositions. Having performed The Stolen Child a few times over my short time in the group to date, it was noticeable how much more we were able to get out of the performance with him out front. Musical ideas suddenly came to life and the BBC Singers were a superb outfit to complement the whole occasion. The crowd were generous and it lovely to catch up with some NZ friends from my days in Christchurch and also in the NZ Youth Choir.
So, Monday is just around the corner and an extremely excited New Zealander cannot wait to be back Down Under. To think that having not been to Australiasia for more than three decades we find ourselves on our second tour in three years! So many friends are coming to our performances so I'm going to have to be disciplined at the signing after each show so I don't keep my colleagues waiting too long! Cheerio for now.
P.s. you'll love the new tenor!
