It's great to be back in Melbourne, the first of our two stops here on this tour. We have spent the morning at various radio stations, including ABC, where we joined Jon Faine for Conversation Hour., co-hosted by Jane Clifton. The other guest was the distinguished British conductor, Sir Andrew Davies. Sir Andrew was an organ scholar at King's College, Cambridge at the same time as some of the KS founder members, and it was great to chat to him. He is here in Australia in his capacity as Chief Conductor of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The guest soloist for his next concert with the orchestra is the amazing pianist Emanuel Ax, with whom the KS toured in the USA some years back. Paul and I had had a chance meeting with Emanuel when crossing a busy road near Berlin's Philharmonie a couple of months back. We chatted for about 30 minutes as the cars whizzed by, and said it would be great to meet up soon. On leaving the ABC building this morning guess who was standing on the corner of the street! We've agreed to meet for dinner, so we'll be able to catch up properly then. We'll be back in Melbourne towards the end of next week for two concerts, after our stops in Sydney and three cities in New Zealand.
