Forgive this rather late blog! It comes from a stormy Bavaria. This afternoon we drove to the venue in Garmisch with beautiful clear skies and sunshine. We drove back after the concert in rain, thunder and lightning. How very exciting!Today we performed a slightly unusual programme. We were singing as part of a festival celebrating the music of Richard Strauss, and of course we were expected to sing some Strauss. So the lower 4 chaps managed to find some charming songs for 4-parts, and Tim and I were able to pop off stage for a few minutes during the concert. A rare treat!We're talking a lot within the group, at the moment, about the amount of work we do off-stage. It's something that I think many people don't realise, but our job is sometimes like an iceberg: the singing on stage is the lovely bit you see above the waterline - and is what we pride ourselves on. But the hours of emails, planning, meeting, travelling, phone calls etc. are kind of like the huge mass of ice below the waterline, supporting the bit above water. We have an amazing team in the Music Productions office, who look after so much of what we do; it's just the nature of today's world that to be innovative touring musicians, there's so much else to do besides the rehearsals and concerts! Just thought I'd muse on this iceberg analogy which came to me earlier..!I hope you're well wherever you are, and that we'll get to meet you soon.
