Adelaide, Australia

Jet lag is something that is one of the occupational hazards of this job and it can be pretty hard to counter. There are various tactics to combat it. I know some people who swear by waiting till you're in the new time zone before eating so your body clicks into gear sooner. Others encourage getting outside into the sunlight and fresh air. Some even turn to coffee. Whatever your tactic, there's nothing quite like that overwhelming feeling of tiredness in the middle of the day, knowing that if you succumb to it you'll be in danger of becoming a shift-worker, which is not so helpful when you need to sing instead of snore!

Yesterday, Chris and I decided to go down the sunshine and fresh air route. We got a taxi to the picturesque Glenelg golf course and trundled round eleven holes of joy, frustration, surprise (at how good his short game was and how atrocious mine was - I wasn't surprised) and good humour! The phrase 'like a duck to water' is often used to describe someone's ability to pick up something new and excel at it. For me, this is not golf. For me, my new skill is locating every bunker on the entire golf course (remember, we only played eleven holes) with military precision. You name the bunker, I found it. To say that my handicap was the clubs is an understatement. Three-putting most holes would be demoralising for an average golfer. Try getting to the green in three shots and maxing out at over ten for the hole! Still, the opportunity for Chris to witness me going back and forth across the green was amusing. For most golfers I can imagine a hole-in-one is their ultimate achievement. Yesterday, mine was NOT quintuple-bogeying each hole. The unparalleled joy when I (single) bogeyed the Third must've been a sight to behold for Chris. Still, we had enormous fun and the chief goal of delaying jet lag was achieved, in no small part thanks to his restrained driving of the buggy...

Following the King's Singers Australian Open, I joined Tim for a burger and Godzilla. My pre-movie concerns about sitting in a dark environment not being overly conducive to staying awake proved correct and I did have a wee doze but if there's a film to keep your eyes open, Godzilla's up there. Crikey, the CGI is amazing and I will admit to a few jumpy moments! Today's been another easy day giving a radio interview with Paul for the Radio NZ show, Upbeat, with host Eva Radich, and another interview for ABC 891 Radio Afternoon Programme, with host Sonya Feldhoff. It was very nice catching up with Eva again, having spoken to her some two and half years ago with David alongside me in the booth.

Am looking forward to singing to the very enthusiastic Adelaide audience, if I remember rightly, and kicking off this nine-concert tour. Hope all's well back in Blighty or wherever you are in the world reading this! Bye for now...
