London, UK

That was such a special weekend. Both before, during, and after Saturday’s special GOLD concert at St. John’s Smith Square, we were all so keenly aware of how momentous an occasion this was. Given that Johnny’s blog [JOHNNY DID A BLOG!] stops just before we go on stage, I feel it’s my duty to report that the concert went without hitch, and the audience seemed to have a great time! This morning’s edition of ‘The Times’ contains a lovely review which says: ‘Slick and suave as ever, The King’s Singers know exactly what their audience wants’. I felt a certain irony this morning, reading the ‘slick an suave’ line, and seconds later spilling a sip’s worth of coffee down my front... but there we go. As long as we fool them on stage, eh?!It was such an honour flying the flag for this institution, and doing it in the presence of so many former members of the group, who have over the years built The King’s Singers into the global machine it is today. It was gratifying also to hear them praise our work - it’s a seal of approval that we all value hugely.Today is the second of 2 clear days before the next big show: King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, tomorrow. In our individual ways, we’ve been relaxing and getting ready again to give another special performance (of an entirely different programme!), in the spiritual home of the group. For me, it’ll be extra poignant, as we’ll be singing with King’s College Choir, with whom I sang for 3 happy years until 2015. If you can’t come, you’ll be able to catch the show on a live audio stream at http://bit.ly/kingslistenOne more thing! Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, when the world celebrates the amazing civil rights activist who was assassinated in 1968. To honour him, we’ve shared our rendition of the song MLK online. If you haven’t already seen it, you might enjoy it. It’s on our Facebook page and here on YouTube: https://youtu.be/Kvh4KPQ0Z3U
