London, UK

Eleven days off! Eleven days off! ELEVEN! DAYS! OFF!

This is a very unusual period of eleven days off (did I mention that already?) in the middle of our Summer term. Normally we take one continuous six-week break in the Summer. But to take in several festivals in the first half of August (including Edinburgh) this year, we decided to shorten that break by a week, on the condition that we could take it another point. That point is NOW - and it's a dream. I'll tell you why.

  1. Let it be known that June is the best month of the year for weather. It's not too hot but very sunny, and the days are so long. It gets dark around 10pm at this time of the year in the UK, and I'm convinced we're all better versions our ourselves as a result.
  2. We're recording our big new album from next Monday, and having the week off beforehand to rest our voices is a really positive thing.
  3. Holidaying is cheaper now than in peak Summertime, so I'm sneaking in a short three-night trip to the Catalonian coast, just South of Barcelona. My heaven is waking up and being able to see the sea straight from my bed, so this felt like an opportunity I shouldn't miss.

Today, Jessie walked around our corner of East London for most of the day (after an obligatory morning spin class, of course). It's funny how a bit of sun can help you to reconnect with where you are. We had lunch in Soho, drinks on Hoxton Square, and dinner in Dalston. If you ask me, it's been a pretty great day. Tomorrow, we're all heading to Bruiser's house in Oxford for a barbecue. Don't worry, I'll make sure he doesn't burn anything (including himself).
