Krakow

We've had a great few days in Poland performing concerts in Tarnow, Krakow, and Katowice with the excellent girls' choir, Puellae Orantes. As Chris G mentioned in his latest blog, we performed some great new arrangements for KS and upper voices by Philip Lawson, Berty Rice and Keith Roberts, but perhaps the biggest crowd-pleaser was the encore, which was a version of the famous Polish folk song "Szla Dziewecka", arranged by Lukasz Farcinkiewicz. We were all given extremely generous comments about our Polish pronunciation, which was greatly appreciated, although I'm not sure it was totally deserved. Two of the concerts took place in brand new concert venues, both of which opened in the last few months of 2014. In Krakow we sang in the hall of the Conference and Congress Centre ICE, and in Katowice we performed in the incredibly stylish NOSPR Concert Hall (whose style is matched by its acoustics). We look forward to returning to these cities very much.Today we head back to the UK, and meet up again on Wednesday to sing at Royal Holloway (home of our Summer School - check the website for details of this year's Summer School). We will be singing with the excellent College Choir, directed by Rupert Gough. It's great to be back at work after our break. I had the great joy of attending Tim and Gemma's wedding in New Zealand, and spent a very wonderful couple of weeks in Australia and NZ. I can't wait to return there, both with the KS, and as a tourist!
