Aaaaand we're back!

Happy New Year everyone! It's great to be back. We had our first rehearsal today and it went well. Nice to dust off the cobwebs and clear the vocal cords. We focused on new repertoire for Pat today that is coming up in these next few shows in The Netherlands and France.Almost without exception, I look forward to the holidays and taking a break from my colleagues (!) and yet I always look forward to coming back and catching up with them and spending quality time singing together. It's a terrific feeling coming back from a break and getting so quickly into the groove. It's nice for me (hardly an old-timer) to be singing music we haven't sung for a few years, namely 'The Auvergnes', a nickname for the group of folksongs from that area, arranged by Goff Richards more than 30 years ago. They're absolutely superb! You might be more familiar with one of them called Le Baylère, which has been most recently recorded on Postcards, but I urge you to seek out the recording A la française (recorded in 1987) sometime and hear Une gente bergère. Gorgeous stuff!Tomorrow our kitchen is coming out and I'm rather pleased to be going away (sorry Liz!) and not have to worry about getting creative with a camping gas cooker! That's all to look forward to on Sunday night, mind. It's one of the last major projects with our house in Oxfordshire so it's really exciting to finally be at the point of no return...the cupboards are empty and packed away in boxes. Almost feels like moving in/out again!I hope you all had a relaxing Christmas and a lovely New Year. As I mentioned in my blog before Christmas, I hope you also had fun expanding your musical horizons and spent quality time with those you love. I certainly did. Please bear with me. I think you should see Moana if you haven't already. This Shiny song is super catchy! It's sung by Jermaine Clement, one half of Flight of the Conchords. Enjoy!Less than thirteen weeks and then I'll be a married man...woah! Wedmin is in full flight so it's an exciting time to be alive, juggling work, home and life. Probably just a taste of what many people do day in, day out. Still, it's all rather grown-up and I'm a happy chappy because of it!Hope to see you soon. Bye for now!
