Gstaad, Switzerland

Greetings from one of the loveliest hotels in the world — Le Grand Bellevue, Gstaad — nestled in the Swiss mountains, on a glorious summers evening! I’m aware how ridiculous that sounds, but I couldn’t resist, as it’s just such a treat to stay in places like this every now and again!Last night we finished up almost two weeks of work in Germany: two concerts, the summer school in Lübeck, two concerts with Sabine Meyer, then another couple of concerts in Arnstadt and Wiesbaden respectively. It’s been a lovely trip, but there’s only so much bratwurst and schnitzel one can manage after a while, and it’s exciting to be over the border now in Switzerland.Tomorrow we have a concert here in Gstaad, as part of the Yehudi Menuhin Festival. It’s in a very beautiful church which we drove past on our (very windy!) bus journey up here. We then get another night in this glorious hotel, before we head to Belgium on Wednesday to continue our travels. It’s the last week of term now, and what a term it has been! We’ll have been on the road for 4 months, with only fleeting stays at home. We’ve covered so much of the world this term, and sung in some extraordinary places to some incredible audiences. But after more than 50 concerts since our last break, it does feel nearly time for some quality time at home with loved ones! For Ellie and me, this means a road trip round beautiful bonny Scotland (including, of course, a stop at Loch Lomond). But in the meantime, there’s one more action-packed week of making music!
