1989

After being hit on the leg by a ball from the bat of a demon Wiltshire farmer during the annual Chilcott/Carrington cricket match, Jeremy was on crutches during a tour of Canada. As luck would have it, most of Montreal was closed for a bicycle race and we had to abandon motorised transport about half a mile from the hall and proceed on foot and crutches. Our choreography on that tour was fairly exciting, though for the wrong reasons! A year later we were forced to begin our Spring engagements with an emergency programme for five singers. When confined to hospital on a diet of rat poison ‘to thin the blood’ after complications resulting from an operation to cure his severe disc prolapse, Simon missed his first King’s Singers performances in twenty-two years. We tried to keep from him the fact that many of our audience didn’t notice any difference!
