The early music pioneer David Munrow was due to interview us for his programme ‘Pied Piper’, and we arranged for him to come to Broadcasting House, where we were already working. For some reason, everyone was already in a particularly silly mood, and David had a bottle of champagne with him, the opening of which was intended to be the beginning of the interview. Having drunk several toasts, we got down to the interview proper. It was immediately doomed, since David turned to Simon (Carrington), switched on his tape-recorder and asked him - very seriously - what it was like to be a member of an ‘all-male grope’…
