The John Lewis department store ran a series of concerts for its employees, and we were invited to give one of these at the Oxford Street (London) branch, in a space that also doubled as an art gallery. We had just launched into a serious classical work, when suddenly the door of the gallery burst open, and a woman shouted back to her friend outside: “You go to the cinema, dear, while I have a look at the nudes”!
