Washington, DC / Fairfax, VA

This is one of my favourite American cities - it's certainly not "just another city" and I love the rules on building that mean the skyline is dominated by the Capitol, the Washington Monument, and the National Cathedral on Wisconsin Avenue. I've had some great times here, with family and with the KS, and I'm delighted that my final KS Concert will be here in December.Yesterday we were guests of NPR's Tiny Desk webcast, following in the footsteps of some of the finest singers, songwriters and bands around. It's unusual for a classical artists to be invited, so all power to our PR team and all praise to NPR for deciding we were worthy! We performed live to a small gathering, standing behind the famous desk, and for an office the acoustics worked really well for us! After that we headed out to Fairfax, VA before our concert today at George Mason University, a real favourite of mine over the years for its enthusiastic and knowledgable audience. I like to do the pre-concert talk whenever we're here, as we always get asked such interesting and perceptive questions (as opposed to "is this your real job?" - always a favourite of Paul Phoenix!).Following tonight's concert we have a night drive up to New York City, where we start rehearsing tomorrow morning with all the participants who have chosen to spend the weekend with us as guests of Distinguished Concerts International New York, an organisation that allows music lovers to get close to and perform with their favourite artists, on one of the world's great stages. It's my last KS performance at Carnegie Hall, so I'm really looking forward to the atmosphere and will take as many memories away with me as I can! Stephanie was supposed to be flying across the pond, but our littlest girl is starting her first day at school today so we both felt it was more important for her to be at home. I can't wait to be back there next week, taking ALL THREE girls to school together for the first time!
