New Music Prize Winners Announced

Good news feels hard to come by at the moment, but we have some to share: today we’re thrilled to be announcing the winners, the honourable mentions and the jury commendations for our New Music Prize competition.Back in December, the jury panel had a virtual meeting, at which they looked through and discussed all of the entries which the six of us had shortlisted for them (selected from a total 350 entries). At this stage, all the compositions were still anonymised meaning that no one had a sense of who the composers were beyond the musical score which was submitted. After lots of discussion, a winner was chosen in each of the 4 categories of the competition. But such was the quality of the writing that the jury wanted to recognise some remarkable entries which didn’t quite take the top spot. ‘Honourable Mentions’ were given to compositions which the whole jury wished to recognise, whilst individual jurors also made some ‘Jury Commendations’ for compositions which they felt merited particular recognition. Our huge congratulations go to Eli Hooker Reese, Parker Kitterman, Jeremy Beck, Geert D’hollander who are the four winners of the New Music Prize. Their compositions will be premiered as part of a digital concert focussed on the New Music Prize, hosted by Washington National Cathedral. But they are just the tip of a wonderful iceberg.
