De Pauw, Greencastle, Indiana, USA

Here we are, heading towards the end of our inaugural US Summer School, and today is the day of our King's Singers performance. Usually we don't have formal performances during Summer Schools, so it's an interesting (and slightly nerve-wracking!) experience to have to step on-stage and practise what we've been preaching for three days now.Doing something new is always exciting, and this week has been no exception. The singers who have joined us here in Indiana have without exception been motivated to sing and to learn. I have to admit to being nervous before the initial sessions, as you never know quite what you're going to get, but the progress and enthusiasm has been a joy to experience. This follows hot on the heels of our performance in the Boston Early Music Festival on Monday. We're fortunate to perform in the finest festivals around the world, and this was certainly no exception. The beautiful surroundings of Jordan Hall in the New England Conservatory is one of my favourite places to perform in the US; putting together a programme of Renaissance music to sing in such surroundings was nothing short of a great pleasure. I hope a return invitation is in the post!
