Featured Ensemble: Pentatonix

Los Angeles, California

Pentatonix are, in many ways, the perfect modern a cappella group. Perfect intonation, perfect balance, perfect vocal percussion (and just the right amount of it), all married with the fact that all five singers are deeply sympathetic members of their ensemble as well as being excellent soloists. Initially formed by three school friends from Texas, who teamed with beatboxer Kevin and bass Avi in advance of entering (and winning) the third season of American TV show The Sing Off, the group is a global phenomenon, performing to huge audiences wherever they go. Aside from their excellent musicianship, we particularly love their quality of their arrangements and their choice of repertoire, which draws mainly on songs that are popular right now. What makes the group especially rare is that their music is so credible both to choral aficionados and lovers of pop music – a dichotomy that very few have or can overcome – and their ability to perform with equal brilliance both with and without microphones is exceptional. We recommend that you explore their music as soon as you have the chance. Lots of footage is available on YouTube, and a great place to start is with their Evolution of Music videos, which really showcase their versatility. We hope you like them as much as we do!
