Featured Ensemble: Tenebrae

London, United Kingdom

British professional chamber choir, Tenebrae, was formed over a decade ago by none other than former King’s Singer, Nigel Short.   What marks out Tenebrae from other vocal ensembles for us is their astonishing blend and sense of ensemble. Everything feels considered and executed with one united, choral voice, so it’s no surprise they’re renowned for their pin-point precision as well as their musicality. Their tag-line is “passion and precision” and this pretty well sums up what we love about them, this and their extraordinary breadth of repertoire from the Renaissance to Contemporary music.

Tenebrae’s concerts are often by candlelight (in a nice play on their name), performing repertoire in the venues for which it was written, often in stunning Cathedrals.   Must-hear discs include their award-winning Spanish Renaissance recording – Victoria’s Requiem, and Joby Talbot’s mesmeric Path of Miracles – you simply must hear this live in concert too …
