1977

We made our first foray into Germany with a big TV programme on ZDF. Five days of filming were booked, and when Al Hume’s mother was taken ill he flew back to England, missing the first day (which we assumed would be spent just rehearsing). In fact, the producer had carefully worked out a schedule of filming which started on Day 1, which is why the odd sharp-eyed aficionado will spot Alastair Thompson (tenor), miming as an alto in things which were recorded that day.
