Sussex

Tonight we have friends coming to dinner. It's an odd life, that of an itinerant travelling musician, so grabbing the chance to socialise with friends is important. I'm attempting Beef Wellington and very excited about pairing some good wine - which should in its own way stimulate the conversation.Cooking is a favourite pastime when I'm home. On tour we have to eat whatever's efficient and closest, and it's often not what we necessarily want. Food is most definitely fuel. Whereas, at home, the preparation and consumption of food can be much more enjoyable. Also a good excuse to open a bottle of wine and stick on some great music while you're at it.Home time is also admin time and, with the pace of the modern world seemingly never-ending in its acceleration, we're never quiet for long. When I joined the group email was a relatively new way of doing business; only three of us even had laptops, and faxes were commonplace. As such, decisions which could have waited a week or more now suddenly need to be made immediately! Not always an easy task, but filling the diary and ensuring we're on the ball is extremely important. The weekend will bring music in the form of Sunday morning's church service. I've managed to avoid being dragged into the choir, which allows me to stand with the family and belt out some hymns. This is where I'm reminded that we all have a voice, and we all should sing. When have you seen someone sing and not be smiling at the end? Very rarely...
