07 / 07 / 2009 - MASTERCLASS INTRODUCTION: VOXPOP

Our bi-annual masterclass course in Lübeck, as part of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, starts at the end of this month. In the next few days we will be introducing the groups, before following them during the course and asking them afterwards what difference the intensive coaching has made.
Although the vocal group VoxpoP was founded in 2002, the group's founder members have known each other since early childhood, as part of the boys' choir Chœur de Garçons de Lorraine. The friends were determined to continue singing together as they grew up and thus Voxpop was born. They still get together at least once every six weeks for rehearsal sessions, and each year the group undertakes a concert tour in France or abroad.
They say, "As we participated four years ago we have a more exact idea of what is going to happen, but well – in the end not really! That first time, everything was new and we were very surprised by some working processes and the effect they had on our presentation. “The way you move in a group or the posture you have compared to the other group members affects the music instantly” - this was one of those things which took us by surprise. Will we get new hints on our way of singing together? For sure! Time and habit makes you think that things have to be as they are. The King’s Singers Workshop is the place to break them up and to try new things you never thought of before.
Also a very big and interesting part will be the contact to the other groups. Maybe for projects or concert collaborations in the future! To see their solutions on problems they or we have, what they know to do and how they do it, makes you discover new possibilities and inspires you to find new ideas for your own way of making music. Just to see and to hear what is possible in an a cappella vocal group is fascinating.
We are looking forward to a wonderful week in Lübeck with fun, stage-fright, work and motivation. The course is filled with many good groups which makes you always try to give your best. And so we will do!"
