Karlsruhe, Germany

Evening all! So today was a monumental day. We met Sabine Meyer. As a former clarinettist myself, this was a big deal! I fell in love with this instrument as soon as I started lessons at the age of 15. I always tend to get the best recordings I can find when learning any particular piece of music. For countertenor rep, I would always be glued to Andreas Scholl interpretations and for clarinet pieces I would automatically go to discs with Sabine Meyer playing. I have plenty of them at home, so to share the stage with her today was very special. If I'd have thought about it, I should have brought her the CDs to sign! Anyhow, I pulled myself together and managed to keep my concentration for our rehearsal this afternoon. Sabine is being joined by two other fine musicians. Göran Söllscher, playing guitar and Knut Erik Sundquist on the double bass. What an incredible trio they make! A truly thrilling sound. Our first collaborative show with them is on Thursday in Ludwigshafen and I can't wait. One more rehearsal tomorrow to put the fairy dust on all the music. It's such fun joint rep - all by Johann Strauss and arranged for The KS and these instruments by a few arrangers - Joseph Horowitz, Paul Drayton and two former members of The KS - Bob Chilcott and Bill Ives.If you haven't heard about this collaboration before, take a look at the album the group released back in 1990. It's a seminal recording in my book - click below to have a listen via the iTunes link! https://www.kingssingers.com/products/an-der-schonen-blauen-donau-on-the-beautiful-blue-danube/Hope you're all well.
