The King’s Singers Foundation
We, The King’s Singers, share a passion for music that was ignited in our youth. We were fortunate to sing and play instruments at home, at school and at University, in churches and concert halls. We are united in the belief that learning music has a unique power to stimulate and improve the mind – there is much research to support this – and to bring people together. Join us in our mission to share, nurture and inspire through harmony.
The Foundation is a registered charity, committed to supporting those with limited access to choral music and to furthering the development of gifted musicians and composers. Activity falls into four main categories:
- KS Inspire: music education workshops
- KS Share: online resource provision
- KS Nurture: commissioning new music
- KS Invite: making concerts more accessible
Foundation News
JOIN US in the celebration of Rounds
The King's Singers Foundation is running an interactive exploration of Rounds. Individuals and groups are invited to join us by performing a Round and posting a video to our Foundation Facebook page. For people feeling particularly brave, there is the opportunity to write and perform your own original Round - The King's Singers may choose their favourites to perform. Now there's a challenge! Find out more on the Foundation Facebook page.
KS Share: an online resource for singers worldwide
The King's Singers are creating a substantial online library of education videos which will cover a wide range of musical skills, techniques and tips. We are thrilled to announce that the first two videos are now available online for singers across the world to enjoy. Johnny shares his tips on learning repertoire and David discusses how the group rehearse without a director.
KS Inspire - King's School Worcester
Following on from the first session that took place on 26 March 2012, Richard Frostick visited King's School Worcester for a second session on 30 April 2012. Once again College Hall was filled with young people exploring music and Rounds from around the world, and by the end of the session, a number of participants had composed their own pieces. The King's Singers then led the senior chamber choir at the school in a one hour workshop, sharing tips for improving tone, clarity of expression and general coval techniques.
Marlborough College KS Inspire Workshop
We are delighted that Marlborough College will be hosting a KS Inspire workshop prior to The King's Singers performance on Sunday 16th September. Rebecca Lodge will visit the school in advance of the concert and lead two workshops for singers aging from 13 to 18, and The King's Singers themselves will work with some of the participants on the day of the concert.
KS Inspire - First Workshop
The first of the Foundation supported education projects took place on Monday 26th March 2012 at King’s School, Worcester, and was a great success. We were honoured that Richard Frostick, Artistic Director for Youth Music Voices and Music Education specialist with the British Arts Council was on board to lead the sessions for us. Within the two hour session, the 11 year old pupils were singing Pastime with Good Companie in three-part harmony, exploring rounds from around the world, and starting to compose their own rounds. Richard will be visiting the school again for a follow-up session on Monday 30th April, two days before The King’s Singers will be performing their own concert at the school. Tickets for the concert can be purchased here.
Pawel Lukaszewski Commission
The King’s Singers performed the UK premiere of Pawel Lukaszewski's Tenebrae Responsoria at St. James's Church, Piccadilly, London on Thursday 10th November 2011 within a programme of Polish a cappella sacred music. Tenebrae Responsoria received its world premiere in Poznan in September, and was made possible through funds sought by The King's Singers Foundation and was commissioned for The King’s Singers by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Warsaw.
Fundraising Concert - October 2011
On Thursday 13th October 2011, The King’s Singers performed in a concert at St Peter’s Church, Eaton Square, London in association with Kidscape, supporting both charities.
