Daryl Runswick at Cadogan Hall

There are but a few musicians who could lay claim over the years to being the "seventh King's Singer" and Daryl's name is pretty close to the top! Having met the group back in Cambridge in the 1960s, Daryl first worked with the fledgling ensemble in the early 1970s and continued to arrange and perform with us for the next 40 years - appearing on-stage with his trio to support the group for our 40th anniversary and contributing an arrangement for our 50th anniversary programmes!Although his first arrangement, Obladi Oblada, was fiendishly difficult and has sadly been consigned to the library, there are many that have stood the test of time so well that they remain firm concert favourites: Lazy Bones/Up a lazy river, Overture to the Barber of Seville, She moved through the fair and the wonderful G&S collection amongst them. Daryl could perhaps rightly be hailed as the first arranger who really made the group swing, and over the years has always been one of the first names that comes up whenever we need a jazz arrangement - or another wonderful classical vocalisation! We are delighted to have been invited to share the stage with Daryl, and many other wonderful musicians, at a concert celebrating his 70th birthday in Cadogan Hall this coming June. Although we are a new generation of singers now, we hold his work in high esteem and are excited to be presenting some of his finest arrangements as a tribute to the long friendship between The King's Singers and Daryl Runswick - possibly one of the most successful musical collaborations of the 20th century!Gala Concert with special guests:The King’s SingersLondon VoicesAleksander Szrami Solisti di LondraTony HymasDaryl Runswick7:30pm | Tuesday 6 June 2017 | Cadogan Hall
