18 / 07 / 2014 - Julian Gregory joins The King's Singers

It is with enormous pride that we can announce that Julian Gregory (tenor) will be joining us in September this year following the withdrawal of Benedict Hymas from the position for personal reasons.

“We were blessed with a world-class field of singers for this position and are thrilled that Julian has agreed to become a member of The King’s Singers, his voice having been on our radar for some time. He sings beautifully, and fits within the ensemble perfectly both on and off-stage. We’re all looking forward to working and touring with him very much” said Christopher Gabbitas.

Julian’s first performance with the group will be a charity concert on Thursday 25 September in Mayfield, UK, before touring across Europe and the United States, performing in several of the world’s most beautiful venues including Dresden Frauenkirche, Washington National Cathedral and the Budapest Palace of Arts.

On being appointed Julian, who had been unable to audition in April when Paul first announced his departure, said: “The opportunity to be in The King’s Singers only comes once and, although for me this has come mid-studies at the Royal Academy of Music, I’m truly delighted to be embarking on this new adventure at this early stage of my career. The Kings Singer’s is a group that I’ve revered since I was a child – my close friends can vouch for this! – so to now be in this unique position is unbelievable. I’m very much looking forward to an exciting time ahead.”

  • Saint Galmier is somewhere we love to return to time and time again - and not least because it's the home of the wonderful Badoit spring water! Sadly we seem to go every 8-10 years or so, and we wish it were more often as the church is beautiful, the audience appreciative, and the food and wine excellent. Last night's concert and rehearsal were great fun, but also very useful to introduce Julian to our touring life. We sang for 10 minutes with Jules, at the end of the rehearsal, and what we heard and felt made us very excited for September and beyond. We have more time to work with him before our summer break, at the forthcoming concerts in Germany as part of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, so those of you who are coming to Paul's last few concerts may well get to meet his successor as well. read

  • Off we go to France, to sing in La Batie, near to Lyon. Julian is joining us so that we can start preparation for September. If you want to come along to show your support and meet our fantastic new tenor, we are singing in the East Sussex village of Mayfield on 25 September. This is a charity concert in aid of the Hospice in the Weald, which provides palliative care to those most in need in the South East of England. It's a wonderful cause to support. Tickets will be on sale from 1 August and you can check our website for details of how to purchase from that date. read
  • After two wonderful concerts in Northern Italy, we head home today for a week of rest and preparation. We'll be helping Julian to start his KS journey, as well as learning a few new pieces for the upcoming Schleswig Holstein festival. We're also returning to the Three Choirs Festival next week, one of the finest choral festivals going, so it's an exciting way to end the season! read
