18 / 05 / 2013 - BBC Radio 3: CD Review

Our most recent release Jean Richafort: Requiem - Tributes to Josquin DesPrez was reviewed on Saturday 18 May on BBC Radio 3. Described by Andrew McGregor as having "effortless blend and true intonation across the six vocal parts", the disc is particularly praised for the performance of Dum Vastos Adriae Fluctus by Jacquet of Mantua which has only been recorded once before. The programme is available online for seven days, to listen to the full programme, please click here. The review begins at around 1:20.

Four star reviews have also been received for the disc in both The Times and The Guardian, where the recording was described as a "Renaissance treasure trove" and "admirably manicured".

The centrepiece of the disc is the Missa Pro Defunctis by the Flemmish composer Jean Richafort, which was published eleven years after Josquin's death and is the most extensive memorial to the composer to survive.

  • We're heading home tonight after an incredible introduction to South America. Thank you to all who came to our concerts, and making us feel so welcome. Lst night was another reminder that we have a wonderful presence in this continent despite never having visited before, and we are sure that we can build on this first trip and return to visit even more countries! • We are in Rio! Another sell-out concert awaits us this evening, and then we have a rare free day tomorrow before our flight home to London in the evening. As one of the world's great cities, it's a real pleasure to be here for the first time. We know there is an incredible musical tradition here and hope to meet some local singers later on. No workshop here this time, sadly, but this trip has been a great success and we hope to be back soon. Rio is also a city that has inspired songwriters through the ages. Whether its "Copacabana," "The girl from Ipanema" or simply "Rio" by Duran Duran, it's impossible to be here and not have music in your head! read
